CHS Inc., the nation’s leading farmer-owned cooperative, is expanding capacity to improve efficiency at its Corsica, S.D., location to better serve local farmers now and into the future.
The facility has increased its receiving capacity to 15,000 bushels per hour, increased the unload capacity to 35,000 bushels per hour and added an 800,000-bushel bunker. These improvements are expected to reduce wait times for customers and enable the facility to handle more grain during peak harvest seasons.
“The expansion at Corsica has provided more storage during peak harvest seasons, which should lead to increased efficiency for our farmers,” says Ben Lyden, senior director of operations, CHS Farmers Alliance. “Our internal trucking fleet is no longer tied up with internal transfers, allowing us to prioritize customer pickup directly from the field and offer better customer service to farmers in the Corsica area.”
The additional bunker space will give growers another place to unload during their busy harvest season, allowing them an opportunity to get back to the field quicker.
By optimizing its assets, CHS continues to strengthen its ability to provide market access and deliver more value for farmer-owners. The improvements were completed this past summer.
